The Search of Meaning

from the book "Man's searching for Meaning"

Drawing on his own experiences and mental states of his fellow prisoners, Frankl elaborated the theory he had begun before his arrest. He argues that “man’s main concern is not to gain pleasure or to avoid pain but rather to see a meaning in his life.” Our fundamental drive, the motivational engine that powers human existence, is the pursuit of meaning.

Pleasure and pain are just things that can help you understand what something means… In respect to business, what pain and pleasure comes from what you do and how does that give meaning to your life? If you see work as pain, but the money that comes from it buys you pleasure you are wasting a significant part of your life. (Daniel Ritzenthaler)
