Since I came back to SF, I really got into San Francisco itself and also into the beat generation, followed by the beatniks and eventually by the hippies. So I went to City Lights and got a bunch of books about SF and book written by beat writers (Kerouac, Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, etc...).
The first one I read is A Writer's San Francisco written by Eric Maisel; a nice journey into San Francisco's twisting streets, climbing its famous hills, exploring bohemian landmarks like City Lights, and check out less-known neighborhoods like Bernal Heights.
The writer divide the point of view of a tourist to the writer's one describing, therefore, a second, more personal, intimate, and inspiring city.
