The quality of our lives is the quality of our emotions

I was re-watching Tony Robbins' TED talk on the train DC-NYC where he discussed the "invisible forces" that motivate everyone's actions, and asked "why we do what we do".

The points covered in this recommended video are emotions (which lead us to do whatever we want), social fulfillment and its art, decisions and how they shape our destiny, the 6 human needs, the invisible forces, and the exploration of our "webs".

Tony claims that if you were to ask most people why they didn’t achieve something they would tell that it was the lack of some type of resource (e.g., time, money, knowledge). Tony believes that the true defining factor is not resources, but resourcefulness. This is to say that if you didn’t achieve something, you lacked resourcefulness. If you can learn to harness your emotions you can do anything.

Did you know that Lance Armstrong never won a championship before being diagnosed with cancer? What do you think changed before and after being diagnosed that allowed him to win 7 world championships? Answer: Lance’s emotion. When you are able to harness your emotions you begin to tap into the human potential that lay dormant within you.

Another interesting examples is taken from our daily life; Tony asks to be cognizant of the emotions you feel during the week. Most emotions people feel during a week are negative (at least that’s what they recall). According to Wayne Dyer, successful people tend to think about the positive moments (feelings) in life more frequently then they do the negative ones.

Personal thought focusing on two opposite human needs: Certainty vs. Uncertainty

"If you had to find a book with your destiny written inside, would you take it and read it...or would you leave it there, closed and unnamed?"

This is a question to which many people would not know how to answer, and in some sort of way it is normal and understandable for it is part of our human needs: the need of certainty and the need of uncertainty; that is, we all need, or better, like to know what is going on with our lives, but at the same time who does not like surprises? We need variety, we need problems! As we need variety in our diets so we need it in our lives and thank god life will always make sure there's variety in yours. And why do we need problems!? Because problems are what we call "bad surprises", they are part of the variety, so next time you run into a problem, thank it on some level, because it is ensuring the variety your life needs.

Favorite quotes and highlights from the talk:
