For A Better Procrastination #6

1.
Just like every powerful tool, the impact comes from the craftsman, not the tool. (S.G.)

I’ve always found uncomfortable telling people that I’m studying advertising. Probably because I don’t like most part of it, or maybe because people don’t like it. However it is, whenever somebody asks me about my major, I cant stop to “Advertising” but I have to get into more details, trying to explain that I’m studying the “new” advertising, that the old one is wrong for this and this, and I want to “make people’s lives better” and bla bla bla. But the usual reaction I receive is

And I can't do nothing but understand them. Unless you care, unless you get into it a little bit more, I find it hard to believe in such a change. So, I’m not blaming you, rather me.
Finally, however, I found somebody (Seth Godin) who could explain briefly and effectively what I always want to say when I try to describe Advertising the way I see it.
Here is an excerpt from Seth's "Is marketing evil?":
“I've got a lot of nerve telling you that what you do might be immoral. It's immoral to rob someone's house and burn it to the ground, but is it immoral to market them into foreclosure? Well, if marketing works, if it's worth the time and money, then I don't think it matters a bit if you're doing your job. It's still wrong.”

Last, I've found a new fun way to explore creativity. On Urban Dictionary type a word and look for original, untraditional definitions. I find learning new meaning in this way easier, funnier, and more effective. If you want to try, start with ADHD or STALKER.

Hope you're enjoying breakfast with me!
