Mexico | Day 6

Our way North

Thu, March 25th 2010, Day 6:
North!

At noon we are already in the Chevy ready for the long drive North. On Friday we have to bring the Chevy back, and on Saturday we have the flight from San Diego to San Francisco.
After getting a 500 pesos ticket for speeding [coming out of a gas station…] and for not letting a lady cross the street [at 3 in the morning in the middle of the desert with nobody walking around…] our budget is cut drastically. We decide to keep driving for the whole night and go as north as possible. We drive by Catavina, by the hotel where we waited for Pancho, and while Noah and Ted sleep in the back, Jose and I enjoy the beautiful sunrise in the desert over coffee and a good talk.

We stop for a fast birria in San Quintin and keep going north.
On our way to Tijuana, a doubt comes in our mind: where do we sleep for the last night if we don’t have the car and we don’t want to lose our life in Tijuana?

After wondering if a night on the streets of San Diego could be an option, we call to the rental agency and we keep the Chevy one last night with us in Rosarito, where we are planning on celebrating the end of the trip. Unfortunately for us, Rosarito appears to be a ghost town with a dozen of people spread out the five or six bars.
We manage to have fun on the beach with some beers and at a bar; but what will remain memorable for that night is the best hot dog ever eaten in my life, Pepe’s hot dog wrapped in bacon and cheese with guacamole avocado salsa jalapenos pickles lettuce peppers olives......

Moment of the day: Noah's stop in the middle of the desert. Pepe’s hot dog.
