Everything is ready.
In a couples of hours, Noah Ted Jose and myself will be at SFO boarding a Virgin flight to San Diego. There, we will couch surf at our new friend Catherine who kindly agreed on hosting us for a night. We will meet up with her, set the tent in her backyard, and with her 7 roommates she will show us the nightlife in Pacific Beach.
I am excited, it is the first time I will be in San Diego and the idea of camping in somebody's backyard sounds like the coolest way to start a road trip.
In the morning we will head towards the border and once entered Tijuana, we're going to rent a car and officially start the road trip towards South. We don't have planned destination, we picked the direction and we will see where to stop to enjoy views, culture, beaches, the ocean, travelers, locals, food and drinks.
The red backpack is ready with a pair of shorts, two pairs of swimsuits, two t-shirts, a pocket camera, passport, visa, and a notebook. I have not used this bag for at least 4 years. Before that, as you can see from the bleached color, this bag came with me everywhere I went. I love it, and I am glad it's back for new adventures. The last time I went on holiday with it, it was in Greece for a week with my brother and his friends, and that was fun. Hope it won't let me down :)
We did not set any rules or objectives, the only things we discussed have been the budget [$500 each for a week, including everything from the moment we leave SF to the moment we come back; we're already short of $200 ca. because of flights, tent, car rental, etc...]; we agreed on the lodging [couch surf in San Diego, tent in Mexico]; and the transportation [plane to San Diego; car in Mexico].
Everything else is to be discovered.
I am looking forward to disconnecting from my SF life and connecting with a different culture, different language, different people. I will have time to think and get lost in thoughts; I can't wait for discussions, stories, jokes, and games with my friends, I can't wait to meet Catherine and her roommates, to sleep in the tent the first time in Mexico, to be driving South, to be inspired, to learn, to share, to meet, to play, to worry, to relax, to experience, to venture, and eventually to miss.
To my classmates, enjoy the spring break!
To my parents, I'll be responsible, and will try not to get into troubles... :)
To everybody else, enjoy the week!
To my fellow travelers, vamos!
